Wednesday, October 5th, was World Teacher's Day. This year's international theme was "Valuing Teachers, Improving their Status." This was only my second time celebrating World Teacher's Day - my first being last year, my first year teaching in Moldova. To mark the day, students taught classes on behalf of teachers and brought us a variety of gifts. Students pool together money before the day to buy these gifts as a class and some students individually bring flowers. I received a jar of instant coffee, a packet of tea, a box of chocolates, and a flower plant - four gifts from four different classes I teach Health Education. Teachers from schools all around our district came to my town for a large event featuring the distribution of awards & certificates as well as performances by students. I left this early because my school had organized a special banquet for all teachers who wanted to participate. This banquet, or masa, was at a new restaurant in town and featured a variety of Moldovan food, wine made by the teachers, and two desserts! Two seventh-graders, Cristina and Anastasia, volunteered to teach their peers in the other section of 7th grade. They taught a class about preventing the spread of colds & flus, with an emphasis on the importance of covering our mouths with our elbows when we cough and sneeze. I didn't record any student performances, but several were similar to this. This comes from a World Teacher's Day celebration in the town of Ștefan-Vodă (held for the whole district, like in my town). This dance is performed by students of the Ștefan-Vodă School of Art and was recorded by my fellow Health Education volunteer, Erika P.
